Dog Town, small town style

Starting a new blog.....does anybody know how many times I've done this? Probably about a dozen, and generally I stick with it for about a month before my postings become more and more infrequent. Oh well, what can I say? When I'm working my regular job of a theatre electrician I have very little time to do anything other than the most necessary duties of life. So I'm going to try this again now that I'm not working all of the time.

Because I'm not working 75 hours a week anymore I have no idea what to do with myself when I have a day off so I decided to volunteer at a local no kill shelter. Today was my first day. I drove up the drive and parked and I could definitely could here the dogs barking. It didn't help any that I parked right in front of a Rottie's kennel. I believe his name was Turner....beautiful dog. I picked up poop in the "basement dogs'" run and took 5 dogs on short walks. I also sat in the basement dogs' run with them and just loved and petted whoever came up to me. Cassidy, a beautiful brown mutt variety sat with me almost the entire time I was in there. The two puppies, Annie and Lou, would come up randomly and jump up on me which I tried to stop them from doing. Duncan, a lab mix I'm guessing, was a trouble maker chewing on almost anything you put down for too long, but he was a sweet dog. Although, of all the dogs I interacted with today I think that Cassidy was my favorite, she's a great dog and I hope she can find a great home soon, she deserves it. And she's almost got the concept of fetch under her belt....the dropping the ball part was the only difficulty. I also toured the shelter today and they have such a random mix of dogs including a couple of beautiful pit bulls, rottweilers, sheltie/collie mixes, lab mixes, a st. bernard, and a bunch of random mutts. I really look forward to going back and helping out again!
